Target 4.A was to reduce the global child mortality rate by two-thirds from 1990 to 2015. In 1990, the child mortality rate was 90 per 1,000 live births. By 2015, this had more than halved to 42.5 per 1,000 live births. However, this missed the global target of reaching 30 per 1,000 live births.
