Three Branches of Science. Modern Science is mainly constituted of three main branches, i.e. Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Formal Sciences as these three areas peruse upon the nature of our world and the universe in the broadest way. Thus, the three main branches of Science are: Natural Sciences. Social Sciences. Natural sciences: the study of the natural world and its phenomena, such as physics, chemistry, biology, geology, astronomy, etc. Social sciences: the study of human society and behavior, such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, political science, etc. Formal sciences: the study of formal systems and abstract structures, such as logic, mathematics, computer science, statistics, etc. Applied sciences: the application of scientific knowledge and methods to practical problems, such as engineering, medicine, agriculture, etc.
