webCentripetal force, for an object in circular motion, is just the force maintaining the circular motion, the force that prevents the object from flying away tangentially. Unless this force is present, no object can execute a pure circular motion, because in absence of a force, a body moves uninterrupted along a straight line (Newton's first law).
