The Maya Gods themed lessons include an insight into the Maya culture, an investigation into Maya Gods, an introduction to the Maya number system and a lesson about Maya writing and how this differs from the way we would write in English.
What was the religion of the Mayans? The Maya believed in many (many!) gods. They believed their gods could help or hurt them. They worshiped their gods every day. Religion was at the heart of everything they did.
How many gods did the Mayans have?"The ancient Maya only had around a dozen or so gods and goddesses. The misunderstanding stems from seeing many drawings of gods in Maya art and thinking they are all different, when it is really just one god in different disguises.
What did the Mayans believe about the afterlife? The Maya believed in a scary afterlife where most people had to travel through a dark underworld where mean gods would torment them. The only people who started out the afterlife in heaven were women who died in childbirth and people who had been sacrificed to the gods. A big part of the Maya religion included the stars and the Maya calendar.
